Weekend Getaway Guide: Long Beach, NY
Need a weekend getaway with your girls?
Same here.
So we planned one last month to celebrate the last few days of August and soak up summer before it was gone!
We set out east to Long Island. Probably not the first place you’d think for a true getaway, because it’s only 45 minutes outside NYC.
But the city of Long Beach in Long Island (not to be confused with Long Beach Island in Ocean City, New Jersey, aka L.B.I.) offered the perfect weekend escape with plenty of opportunities to get bronzed and boozy.
STAY:
The Allegria is the only luxury hotel in Long Beach, and definitely the only accommodations you need to look into. It’s situated directly on the boardwalk, has gorgeous rooms with ocean views, AND a rooftop pool, lounge deck and bar. Heaven on the Atlantic? Look no further.
PLAY: Beach, Bike & Board.
The most noteable thing to do in Long Beach during the summer is hit the beach. Whether you post up on Washington Ave (with a prime section for surfing) or prefer the playground of Pacific Blvd, you’ll get plenty of sun and salt.
Grab an ice cream from the vendors walking the beach, or pack a cooler of beers (and remember to bring plastic cups – no cans or bottles allowed!) and soak in the summer vibes.
Other leisure activities within reach include bike rentals, surf lessons, paddle boarding, boating and fishing, just to name a few. Cruise up and down the boardwalk for some action in between roasting sessions on the sand.
EAT:
It wouldn’t be a getaway without some cocktails and bites. Start your day with a coffee smoothie at The East End Bungalow (seriously, it’s as good as it sounds. I’ve been making my own version at home everyday since I tried it here).
Wrap it up with hella-strong margaritas and taco salads at The Cabana for dinner, and then head to The Beach House. 90s pop and hip-hop jams will have you dancing all night with your ladies. Drinks are reasonably priced (although not that strong) and the place gets packed. So post up once the sun goes down.
