How to Spend 24 Hours in Rome
Rome wasn’t built in a day, but it IS possible to see it all in just one!
We were crunched on time (again) and had to get in as much as we could. If you’ve only got 24 hours in Rome, here’s one way to do it.
Start with a quick breakfast in Monti, the Italian way…. cappuccino and cornetto.
A short walk from the Monti neighborhood is the Colosseum. You can admire this ancient wonder from outside, or purchase a ticket and head inside.
From the Colosseum walk up to Piazza Venezia (going toward Piazza Navona). Make a quick stop at the iconic Pantheon, another ancient and architectural wonder in the middle of this busy city.
Walking over to Piazza Navona, you’ll pass lots of stores, boutiques and cafes. Once in the piazza, there’s plenty of entertainment from street performers and local artist’s work on display.

Lunch break. It’s almost impossible to go into an Italian restaurant in Rome and not see pizza on the menu. Grab some thin crust pies, or hearty salads from a local’s favorite, L’insalata Ricca. When in Rome…
Walk along the Tiber River to the Vatican City. It gives you a beautiful view of Rome, plus you get to walk off lunch ;)
A quick walk through St. Peter’s Basilica is a must! The lines are usually long and look intimidating, but it should only take a half hour to get inside, and the magnificent church is worth the wait. It’s free to enter, just make sure you’re wearing proper “church attire” or you’ll be turned away.
Hop on the metro back to the other side of the Tiber River and make a final stop at the Spanish Steps and the Trevi Fountain.
Complete your day with dinner in the lively Compo de’ Fiori, where you can easily turn a late dinner into a night out.
